How To Share Your Faith

Here are a few things to help you all to share your faith with others…

First off, it’s important to remember that, as Christians we are all called to share our faith with others but we are called to do so with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3: 15-16). The point of Evangelism isn’t to win an argument, to prove a point, or just to be right, it’s about introducing people to Jesus!

So here are a few things to help you get the conversation started, so that you can introduce people to Jesus and share your faith…

5 Questions to help start the conversation:

The most important part of asking these question is to listen well after you ask them. Don’t correct them, no matter how strange their answers may seem to you. It is your job to hear their heart and understand where they are coming from. Here are five great questions to get them talking:

1.Do you have any spiritual beliefs?

- Not do you believe in God?  Not where do you go to church?

2.In your opinion, who was Jesus?

-Remember, just listen… don’t make any statements!

3.Do you believe in heaven or hell?

4.If you died right now, where would you go?

- If they say “heaven”, ask “why?”

5.If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?

- If they say yes, open up the Bible with them.

- If they say no, then it’s ok to do nothing and to pick up conversation again the next day.

Sharing Your Testimony:

Your testimony is your story of how you came to know Christ and what he’s meant for you in your life. Your personal story of how Christ has impacted your life is one of the best tools you can use to witness to other people because no one can deny your personal experience. A good story will talk very little about the person and a lot about Jesus. Here is a good three step process to help you tell your story.

1.What was your life like before you met Jesus?

2.How did you come to know Jesus?

3.What has your life been like since asking Jesus to be your Lord and Savior?

Some Helpful Tips for sharing your story

•Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and guidance as you write. (James 1:5-6)

•What if I became a Christian when I was really young?  -  That is not a bad thing.  Share the blessings of growing up in a Christian home.  Emphasize your life after receiving Christ, but remember that at some point you did decide to receive Christ, even if it was very young and you can’t exactly remember it.  In explaining this you can still share the Gospel in your testimony.

•Practice, Practice, Practice.  Sharing your testimony well takes time and practice.  You are giving the story of how God impacted your life with the hope that someone else may want the same.  If you can share the story, God may prompt hearts.
